RedLand Scorpions (U9)

The Scorpions capture FIRST PLACE in York USA U-10 Div 1 undefeated and outscoring opponents 26-1!!! - Saturday, May 10, 2008

The winter regiment of training and playing U-11 teams, often twice as big as them, paid off this spring as the Scorpions become one of the elite teams who are not only undefeated but are undefeated while playing in a  Div-1 league a year older than them!  The girls have always been talented, but the winter training taught them teamwork and field presense.

It was a joy to watch the plays develop starting with an awesome goalie, backs who know where to be and how to clear the ball to the mids who carried the ball through traffic and wings and strikers who pass, cross, shoot,  attack & finish in beautifully executed plays.  In fact, the Scorpions’ starting defense allowed no goals throughout the entire season! The only goal scored against them was a late-game goal while they were playing secondary positions so as to not run up the score.

Congratulations Scorpions you played up, you played tough…you played with talent, heart and RedLand Pride…You Are the Champions!

Scorpion’s are finalists in the HEMPFIELD FALL CLASSIC outscoring opponents 12-3 - Monday, November 19, 2007

and they tied the host team, Hempfield Wave who’s only loss came from undefeated nemesis HMMS…The tie was a major victory for these girls who lost 5-1 in their league game with Hempfield.  They knew in their hearts they could play with the leagues best, and if they turn up the volume…they can win!

Sunday’s bitter cold, wind and rain did not dampen the Scorpion’s sprits.   They kept warm by turning up the heat, pressure and intensity as they closed out the season by scoring 7 unanswered goals against the previously unbeaten West Chester United Chargers, & 3 more answered goals against Treddyfrinn/Easttown Surge.

Each and every one of those girls dug deep inside of themselves and put forth maximum effort and heart.   They played like a seasoned team with great field presence … Always holding positions, executing accurate passes, defending the goal with an awesome defense that kept the opponants out of the net all day Sunday…and newfound relentless pressure via an  " ATTACK & FINISH " attitude by the mids, forwards and strikers.  Their relentless pressure and superb footwork overwhelmed opponents despite the massive size and strength differential.  It goes to show we don’t have to be big…we have to have heart, effort and execution…THANKS GIRLS  girls for showing us and yourselves what we have to look forward to next season…HERE'S TO A JOB WELL DONE!!!

Scorpians Take 3rd Place in Winners Bracket at Dillsburg Shoot Out - Wednesday, October 10, 2007

Redland’s U9 Girls rise to the challenge and capture 3rd place in the winners division at Dillsburg Shoot Out!  A scorpion is tiny yet packs a powerful and sometimes deadly sting…well so do our Scorpions!   When faced with stronger  & more physical teams,  the Scorpions relied on scoring first, an awesome defense and teamwork to take control of their opponents.

After the qualifying round, the Scorpions were seeded 8th out of 16 and made it into the winner’s bracket.  In the first game of the championship round we beat the 1st place seed, North Carroll Lightning.  The scorpions controlled the lead throughout the game and matched the Lightning’s physical tempo.   In Game 2 the Scorpions again took the lead and but ended in a 1-1 tie putting the scorpions in their first ever shoot out.   The tension was high, but the Scorpions prevail thanks to a lone goal and awesome saves by our goalie.

Game 3 was against HMMS United, the winner of the tournament.   Although we were outmatched, the girls showed tremendous courage and a never give up attitude.  We look forward to the upcoming league game with HMMS!

Our last game was a rematch with North Carroll.  Again we took an early lead and controlled the game.  They never scored a goal against us!  Unfortunately a questionable call led to a penalty kick to tie the game.   We kept even throughout the shoot out with each scoring 3 goals but lost in sudden death to finish 3rd.

We are so proud of the girls…they dug deep within themselves this weekend and discovered that they are better and stronger than their age and size indicate.  A coach of another team who watched us play summed it up best….He started out informing his girls to watch the North Carroll team because they are the best in the division.  At half time he asked us why we were 8th because we played like we were the 1st place team.   He then told his team, “Girls I want you to watch RedLand …they are playing with heart, taking their licks and winning with a balance of aggressiveness, defense and most importantly sportsmanship”

Thanks to each of our Scorpions for the excellent display of talent, teamwork and sportsmanship!!!!

Scorpians Take 2nd Place in RedLand Summer Classic - Sunday, August 19, 2007

The Scorpians enter the season with a bang as they take 2nd place!   Although 1st place was their goal they can be proud of their performance.  They played with heart and kept the ball on our end most of the game.
